The Reason You Should Never Leave This Kitchen Appliance Plugged In Overnight

Many people swear by their air fryers for good reason. They can produce crispy fries, roasted vegetables, and juicy chicken in less time than a conventional oven while creating far less mess than deep frying. Their speed and convenience have made them one of the most popular kitchen appliances in recent years.

One evening, after preparing a batch of fries, a homeowner forgot to unplug the air fryer before settling down to watch a movie. Later that night, a burning smell coming from the kitchen led to a worrying discovery. Smoke was drifting from the back of the appliance, and after unplugging it, the power plug was found to be extremely hot and slightly melted, highlighting how a seemingly routine mistake could have become far more serious.

Reports from consumers show that similar incidents, while uncommon, have occurred with some air fryers due to electrical faults or overheating. Like many high-powered appliances, air fryers draw a significant amount of electricity during operation. In rare cases, damaged wiring, faulty components, or electrical problems can create excessive heat that increases the risk of fire.

Safety experts recommend unplugging an air fryer once it has finished cooking, particularly if it will be left unattended for long periods or overnight. They also advise regularly checking the power cord and plug for signs of damage, using the appliance on a stable, heat-resistant surface, and following the manufacturer’s care instructions to help reduce the risk of electrical problems.
