I lifted the blanket and froze. Something lay exactly where I was about to sleep, with thin, pale legs stretching in every direction. For a few seconds, I could not move. My heart raced as I tried to understand what I was seeing. The strange shape looked like a tiny creature hiding beneath the blanket, and I seriously considered leaving the room. I turned on the brightest light and took several photographs, zooming in on the mysterious object. The pale extensions looked remarkably like insect legs, but something was strange: nothing moved. It was a seed that had begun to germinate. The frightening “legs” were actually young roots growing outward in search of moisture. The discovery instantly changed everything. I wondered how the seed had ended up there, perhaps carried inside on my clothing or accidentally dropped from a plant.
