At first glance, there doesn’t seem to be anything unusual about this breakfast table. Pancakes are stacked on plates, eggs and bacon are ready to eat, coffee has been poured, and syrup is sitting nearby. Everything you would expect from a comfortable morning breakfast appears to be right where it should be. But there’s a small detail missing from the scene, and spotting it may be harder than you think.
The challenge isn’t to find something hidden—it’s to figure out what isn’t there. Your attention naturally goes toward the food, cups, plates, and utensils because they are the most noticeable objects. Instead, take your time and examine the entire table. Look beside the plates, around the coffee, and near the condiments. Many people immediately assume a food item is missing, but the answer is something much more ordinary that you would normally expect to have nearby while eating.
The missing item is a napkin holder—or simply napkins. The table already contains nearly everything needed for the meal, including pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee, syrup, plates, cups, and eating utensils. Yet there doesn’t appear to be a napkin holder, napkin dispenser, loose napkin, or even a paper towel anywhere in the scene. Once you know what to look for, its absence suddenly becomes much easier to notice.
That’s what makes this puzzle so tricky. Our eyes tend to focus on the most visually interesting parts of an image, especially the food, while small everyday objects can easily go unnoticed. If you spotted the missing napkins before checking the answer, you caught the trick! If you didn’t, take another look at the picture—the missing item may suddenly seem surprisingly obvious. Sometimes the hardest thing to notice isn’t something cleverly hidden, but something that simply isn’t there.
